Old School House, Hutton - Pond garden
A complete remodelling of a mature garden for the new owners.
We worked on the garden in two stages, starting in August 2022, then resuming in early spring 2023 and continuing until June 2023. We worked around the builders who were remodelling the inside of the house at the same time, and it all ran very smoothly.
As the photographs show, a number of new ‘rooms’ were created. These included the demolition of the old garage and oil tank to make way for a large vegetable garden and espaliered fruit trees; a concrete base for a new shed and potting area; a new pond; reshaping and restocking the borders; a rose arbour; compost bins; two sandstone patios; timber edging throughout; and replacing the original red-chip gravel with a more sympathetic coloured river gravel.
I designed and project managed the whole build, and was present on site every day, working at every level while also taking care of the finer design details.
It was a rather tiring, although very satisfying, 11 months.
